General information
Japan (Japanese: 日本, Nippon) is a country of islands east of Asia, consisting of approximately 3,000 islands. The vast majority of these islands have little or no population. The largest islands are Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu. The capital of Japan is Tokyo. A number of major cities in Japan: Yokohama, Kobe, Hiroshima and Kawasaki.

Weather and Climate
Japan's climate is very different because it covers a large area. In the north the winters are cold with lots of snow. The temperature can drop to -40 degrees. Summers in the north are mild, with temperatures up to 20 degrees. The southern islands are much warmer with temperatures of around 30 degrees in summer and 15 degrees in winter.
